General disclaimer
byyours publishes troubleshooting articles describing common errors in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets and the procedures we use to resolve them. The content is written by working spreadsheet professionals and edited against real failing workbooks. Still, every workbook is different, every Excel version is different, and Microsoft and Google ship changes that may make a previously-correct procedure incorrect.
You apply our fixes at your own risk.
No professional advice
Nothing on byyours is:

- Legal advice. We do not advise on contract terms, compliance, or any legal matter. Consult a licensed attorney.
- Financial advice. We do not advise on investment, financing, or financial planning decisions.

Back up before you fix
Several of our guides — particularly in the File Recovery, Performance, and Data Cleanup categories — describe procedures that modify the underlying file in ways that cannot be undone with Ctrl+Z. Before applying any procedure from byyours, make a copy of the original file and apply the fix to the copy. If the procedure works, replace the original. If it does not, the original is still intact.
This is non-negotiable for any guide that:
- Modifies a workbook’s XML (file-corruption recovery)
- Deletes objects, named ranges, or hidden sheets in bulk
- Uses VBA macros that loop and write
- Runs a Power Query that overwrites a destination
- Strips formatting, comments, or conditional formatting
We say this loudly inside the affected articles too. We’re saying it again here.
No warranty
byyours is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We make no representations or warranties about the accuracy, completeness, currency, or suitability of any content. See our Terms & Conditions for the full warranty disclaimer.
Software changes
Microsoft Excel (Microsoft 365, Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, 2016, and earlier) and Google Sheets ship feature changes regularly. A menu path that was correct when we published an article may move. A function that was missing may be added. A keyboard shortcut may change.
We re-test articles when we become aware of breaking changes and date every guide at the top of the page. If you find a step that no longer matches your version of the software, please tell us and we will re-test and update.
Version coverage
Unless an article specifies otherwise, our guides target:
- Microsoft 365 (current channel) on Windows and macOS for Excel
- Google Sheets in its current web release
- Excel 2021 / 2024 when relevant for users who have not migrated to 365
- Excel 2016 / 2019 when we explicitly call out backward-compatibility differences
Steps for Excel for the web, Excel mobile, and Sheets mobile are sometimes covered separately. Always check that the article matches the version you’re using before applying.
